Terms of Service
Effective July 19, 2026 · Consumer Transparency Collective, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
1. Who we are and what this is
The Defund Whatever app and website (the "Service") are operated by the Consumer Transparency Collective ("CTC", "we"), a Missouri nonprofit corporation. By using the Service you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
2. What our analyses are — and are not
- Brand analyses combine data from cited public sources (government records, certification directories, community datasets, corporate-ownership records) with AI-generated assessment. Items marked [VERIFIED] come from a cited source; items marked [ESTIMATED] are AI inference and may be wrong.
- Alignment scores are personalized opinions, computed against the values you configure. The same brand scores differently for different users by design. Scores are not statements of objective fact, endorsements, or accusations of wrongdoing.
- Public data can be incomplete, outdated, or mistaken. Verify anything that matters to you with the cited sources before acting on it. The Service is not financial, legal, or professional advice.
3. Your account
- Guest use requires no account. Accounts require an accurate email and are for your personal, non-commercial use.
- You're responsible for activity under your account. Keep your password to yourself.
- You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile → Delete Account).
4. Fair use of a free service
We're a nonprofit running real computing costs so this can stay free for most people. Daily analysis limits apply per tier. You agree not to circumvent limits, scrape or bulk-query the Service, resell access, probe or disrupt our infrastructure, or use the Service for unlawful purposes. We may throttle or suspend access that threatens the Service's sustainability or security.
5. Donations and supporter tiers
Optional supporter tiers are donations to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that come with higher daily limits as a thank-you. Payments are processed by Stripe. You can cancel a recurring donation at any time, effective at the end of the current billing period. Donations are generally not refundable, but if something went wrong, email us — we're reasonable.
6. Intellectual property
The Service, including its software, design, and content we author, belongs to CTC or its licensors. Third-party data remains subject to its own licenses (for example, Wikidata content under CC0). Brand names and trademarks that appear in analyses belong to their respective owners; their appearance does not imply any affiliation or endorsement.
7. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ACCURACY, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CTC WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY DECISION YOU MAKE BASED ON THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF $50 OR THE AMOUNT YOU DONATED IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM.
8. Changes and termination
We may update the Service and these terms; material changes will be reflected by the effective date above and, where appropriate, notice in the app. We may discontinue the Service (we hope not to). You may stop using it at any time.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Missouri, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Missouri.
